Feeling they had outgrown their current house, but reluctant to move, our client asked us to investigate the addition of a master bedroom and bathroom to the loft space of their current home.
Their brief was to create a generously proportioned and luxurious master bedroom and bathroom within the loft space, which must blend stylistically with the rest of the house and provide adequate wardrobe space. In addition they required room for photovoltaic system equipment and a new boiler, as well as storage of personal possessions,
Stunning bifold doors and glass juliet balconies maximise the views and provide ventilation to both the bedroom and bathroom.
We suggested that the landing space be kitted out with fold-up airers to allow laundry to be air-dried out of sight of the living accommodation. An automatic flat roof velux provides ventilation to the landing space and stairs, with the security of a rain sensor in case of a sudden shower.
In addition to the photovoltaic array provided to the south facing roof, the construction boasts insulation levels well above those required for Building Regulations Approval. The clients report that they have never needed to heat the loft and that in fact the whole house is warmer following the construction work.
As a future project the client intends to replace the windows and doors with timber windows and full width bifold doors to match those of the loft.
